Vandal Crest, Grape Harvest, and Meads. Oh my!

Camas Prairie Winery is the new proud producer and carrier of Vandal Crest Wines. When purchasing a delicious Vandal Crest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay or Pinot Gris, a large portion of each bottle’s sale goes directly toward student scholarships. Hand crafted “I-Vandal” branded boxes are available for purchase with Vandal Crest wines to complete this unique gift. Support your local community, University, and students while pleasing your palate.

Grape harvest is on its way and is expected to take place either the second or third week of September. Due to the particularly wet, hot summer this harvest is anticipated to be especially bountiful and flavorful.

In shop at Camas Prairie Winery, mead production is underway. Both Huckleberry and Strawberry meads are currently brewing and will be ready for bottling before the end of this month . Other wines being bottled in the coming weeks include, Hog Heaven Red wine, Lemberger, Sarah’s Blush and Spiced Wine.

A long overdue update and Year End wrap up

As the end of 2012 approaches and we find ourselves still alive despite the Mayan’s best intentions, we felt it was past time to update our blog.  We’ve had some changes in staff, which made us realize just how much Charlotte did for us!  (i.e.this blog!)  Along with some new faces, we also have new beers, new glassware, and the launch of the Vandal Crest wine program.  It’s been a busy year for sure!

We were lucky enough to be able to include Stone 12.12.12 Vertical Epic Ale in our vast selection of Import and  Domestic beers!  What we were able to acquire, we sold out of almost immediately! Sorry if you missed it, but the bottles are cool!

Speaking of beers, have you seen our selection of popular holiday beers?  We have the entire line up of “elf beers” (Bad Elf, Very Bad Elf, Seriously Bad Elf, Criminally Bad Elf, and Insanely Bad Elf).  Or perhaps you would be more interested in a Lump of Coal, or Warm Welcome Nut Brown Ale, all imported from the UK.  We also have a few Norwegian holiday beers, and a cherry Belgium beer.  Basically, it’s a large selection of holiday beers!

elf beers

We are a winery after all, so we would be remiss not to mention our selection of sparkling wines perfect for holiday gatherings, or a “morning mimosa”, says Alice.  And our extremely popular hot spiced wine!  “Christmas in a Glass”, says Jeremy.  It’s a wonderful ready to serve mulled wine with cinnamon, cloves, and allspice.   If you prefer a spiced mead, we have that too!

We have had a great month of cheese sales!  WSU Creamery’s Cougar Gold cheese is available year round at the winery and is perfect for holiday parties, hostess gifts, and gifts in general – and you don’t have to drive to Pullman to get it!

We’ve also introduced new glassware to our retail line up.  We have our traditional stemmed Camas Prairie Winery glasses, but we also now offer stemless wine glasses printed with our new winery logo.  But wait, beer drinkers are not to be forgotten, and they can purchase a hefty pint glass with the new winery logo as well!e year round at the winery, but it’s especially popular this time of year for holiday parties and gifts!

After what felt like an endless season of harvest, crush, fermentation, aging, bottling, labeling, foiling, stocking, and selling…we staged a coup and sent our winemaker home to his mother for Christmas!!!  Jeremy is enjoying time with his family in Colorado, while his wife Heidi is here holding down the fort in Idaho!

We have some fun new stuff coming up for 2013!!  Be on the lookout for some totally redesigned labels, and a new Blackberry Mead being added to our line up!  We can’t wait for you to see and taste the new stuff!  We have some thoughts on other changes and a list of “we hope to’s” for the year, so we’ll see how much we can get done for you.

We appreciate all your support, and wish you all the best for 2013!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!!

August Beer of the Month – Belhaven Scottish Ale

CPW’s Beer of the Month
Belhaven Scottish Ale

One of my personal favorite beers we carry here at the winery in the ever so smooth, Nitro-Can!
The CO2 canister at the bottom of the can helps to give this beer its incredibly smooth head straight from the can.  Be sure to watch the tiny bubbles come to life as you pour!

Commercial description:
Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Vandal Crest Wines

Toward the end of July, we premiered our Vandal Crest Wines!  Working alongside the University of Idaho Office of Alumni Relations, they have selected Camas Prairie Winery as the official producer of the Vandal Crest Wine Program.  We have taken FOUR of our award winning wines and replaced the labels with iconic images of the University of Idaho.  You can view and purchase these wines by visiting today, or stop by our tasting room.  The best part of the Vandal Crest Wine Program is that a percentage of sales goes right back to the University of Idaho to help support student scholarships.

7.20.2012 – New Import & Micros Brews in Stock!

Come into Camas Prairie Winery today and check out what new beers we have in stock.

New Beers in stock @ Camas Prairie WineryNew Import Beers:

Weltenburger Kloster Hefe-Weissbier Hell
Alcohol Content: 5.40% ABV
Brewed in: Germany Description:

This was indeed a great Hefe.  The smell of this brew was fantastic! Loads and loads of fruit and spice with a slight musty lambic like scent hiding in the back.  The mouthfeel was very smooth as the carbonation was almost non-existent with this one.  This is with out a doubt, one of the best Hefeweizens I have had in ages.  Absolutely do try this if you’re a fan of the style.  Score A.”

Brewery Fact: The Abbey Weltenburg is the oldest beer producing monastery in the world and was founded in 1050 A.D.

Golden Pheasant
Style: Czech Pilsener
Alcohol Content: 5.0% ABV
Brewed in: Slovac Republic
Beer Description:

“Golden Pheasant® is true to the style for the region, a robust, full-flavored beer. It exhibits a great balance between nutty malt flavors, aromatics and delicious noble hop varieties. The finish is clean and refreshing, making Golden Pheasant® a pleasure to drink.”

New Micro Brews:

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout
Style: Imperial Stout
Alcohol Content: 9.5% ABV
Brewed in: Denver, Colorado
Commercial Description:

“Great Divide’s Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti’s hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).”

Odin Brewing – Thor’s Equinox
Style: Belgian Strong Ale
Alcohol Content: 9% ABV
Brewed in: Seattle, Washington
RateBeer Description:

“Pours very, very dark amber with a slight beige head. Nose has a bit of everything – spice, dark malt, chocolate, cinnamon, maybe anise. It brings Mexican chocolate to mind. Med body. Flavor is dark malt, with contributions of dark fruit, chocolate, anise and spices. Still think there’s cinnamon. It’s complex and interesting. Finishes on the dry side.”

Beer Fact: Odin Brewing has taken a different approach than many new brewers, and rather than going for many very big, single batch beers, we are focused on food-friendly beers in a smaller lineup that is readily available year round. (1)
