August Beer of the Month – Belhaven Scottish Ale

CPW’s Beer of the Month
Belhaven Scottish Ale

One of my personal favorite beers we carry here at the winery in the ever so smooth, Nitro-Can!
The CO2 canister at the bottom of the can helps to give this beer its incredibly smooth head straight from the can.  Be sure to watch the tiny bubbles come to life as you pour!

Commercial description:
Malty and hoppy, we at Belhaven love the classic Scottish Ale and we’ve been brewing it longer than any of the other beers we produce. Delivering a sweet, smooth and creamy finish, Scottish Ale has a stunning ruby colour in the glass. Magic.

Brewed  By: Belhaven Brewery
Country:
Scotland
Style: Scottish Ale
Alcohol Content:
5.2% by volume
Sale Price: $3 + tax

7.20.2012 – New Import & Micros Brews in Stock!

Come into Camas Prairie Winery today and check out what new beers we have in stock.

New Beers in stock @ Camas Prairie WineryNew Import Beers:

Weltenburger Kloster Hefe-Weissbier Hell
Style:
Hefeweizen
Alcohol Content: 5.40% ABV
Brewed in: Germany
RateBeer.com Description:

This was indeed a great Hefe.  The smell of this brew was fantastic! Loads and loads of fruit and spice with a slight musty lambic like scent hiding in the back.  The mouthfeel was very smooth as the carbonation was almost non-existent with this one.  This is with out a doubt, one of the best Hefeweizens I have had in ages.  Absolutely do try this if you’re a fan of the style.  Score A.”

Brewery Fact: The Abbey Weltenburg is the oldest beer producing monastery in the world and was founded in 1050 A.D.

Golden Pheasant
Style: Czech Pilsener
Alcohol Content: 5.0% ABV
Brewed in: Slovac Republic
Beer Description:

“Golden Pheasant® is true to the style for the region, a robust, full-flavored beer. It exhibits a great balance between nutty malt flavors, aromatics and delicious noble hop varieties. The finish is clean and refreshing, making Golden Pheasant® a pleasure to drink.”

New Micro Brews:

Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout
Style: Imperial Stout
Alcohol Content: 9.5% ABV
Brewed in: Denver, Colorado
Commercial Description:

“Great Divide’s Yeti Imperial Stout is an onslaught of the senses. An almost viscous, inky-black brew, Yeti opens with a massive, roasty, chocolate, coffee malt flavor that eventually gives way to rich toffee and burnt caramel notes. Packed with an enormous quantity of American hops, Yeti’s hop profile reveals a slightly citrusy, piney, and wonderfully dry hoppy finish. 75 International Bittering Units (IBUs).”

Odin Brewing – Thor’s Equinox
Style: Belgian Strong Ale
Alcohol Content: 9% ABV
Brewed in: Seattle, Washington
RateBeer Description:

“Pours very, very dark amber with a slight beige head. Nose has a bit of everything – spice, dark malt, chocolate, cinnamon, maybe anise. It brings Mexican chocolate to mind. Med body. Flavor is dark malt, with contributions of dark fruit, chocolate, anise and spices. Still think there’s cinnamon. It’s complex and interesting. Finishes on the dry side.”

Beer Fact: Odin Brewing has taken a different approach than many new brewers, and rather than going for many very big, single batch beers, we are focused on food-friendly beers in a smaller lineup that is readily available year round. (1)

July 2012 Beer of the Month – Westmalle Trappist Ale Dubbel

Image from redsalehouse.com

Brewed by: Brouwerji Westmalle
Country: Belgium
Style: Dubbel
Alcohol by volume: 7.0%
Sale Price: $5.62 + tax

Beer description from brewery:

Westmalle Dubbel is a dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The creamy head has the fragrance of special malt and leaves an attractive lace pattern in the glass. The flavour is rich and complex, herby and fruity with a fresh-bitter finish. It is a balanced quality beer with a soft feel in the mouth and a long, dry aftertaste. The Dubbel contains 7% alcohol.

Since 1856 the monks have also been brewing a dark Trappist beer along with their table beer. Since the recipe was modified in 1926, they have been brewing slightly heavier beer. This is the foundation of today’s Dubbel.

June 2012 Updates

June Events Calendar:

Friday 6.15 – Moscow Artwalk @ downtown, Moscow
Friday 6.15 – Against the Grain Event @ the Silos 3-9PM
Saturday 6.16 – Live Music Series!
Solo Sax Sessions with Noah Peterson 7-9PM @ the Winery

Live Music Series June 16th from 7-9PM – All Ages Welcome

“While cowboy jazz might be a bit of a stretch, folk jazz fits like a glove.  A former Marine and proud Montanan, Noah’s country-boy roots are always showing up in his stories and his music.”

The summer is upon us, even though everyone in Moscow or even the entire Palouse area, can agree with me that it doesn’t feel very summer-y lately.  But we have been busy indoors here at the winery.

Our new 2012 Palouse Gold Mead is finally back on shelves for all of our Mead Maniacs out there!

We even bottled a new vintage of Huckleberry Honey Mead that is still yet to be released.  But I’ll give you the inside scoop–it’s got a little higher alcohol content than the current vintage and an incredible balance between the honey and the Northwest’s beloved huckleberries.

If you “Like” us on Facebook and follow our Twitter (@CmsPrairieWnry) you have been seeing our updates about our IndieGoGo Campaign.  If not, what are you waiting for??

We have reached $320 in our fundraising efforts to purchase an in-house label printer but we still are quite far away from our goal and only have 24 days left!!
How about instead of getting your usual coffee tomorrow morning, go to indiegogo.com/camasprairiewinery and donate just $3-$5.  Every single dollar counts and the benefits of a new printer are endless!

For example, the new vintage of Huckleberry Honey Mead had an initial alcohol content of 13.8%.  IF we had our own label printer, we could easily adjust the alcohol content on our computer and print them the same day.  Instead, Jeremy had to go and work his wine maker magic to lower that alcohol percentage and get it to the 12% level because that is what we currently have printed on our hundreds of pre-printed labels.  And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t enjoy a little extra kick in their glass of Huckleberry Mead?

This month I’ve been very busy revamping Camas Prairie Winery’s internet presence.  Be prepared to see a new website complete with an on-site shopping cart and the premier of Vandal Crest Wines!
We are the official producer of Vandal Branded Wines through the Vandal Crest Program.  Expect to see these images on our already well-known and best selling wines: Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Go Vandals!

Visit http://www.camasprairiewinery.com/vandalcrestwines for more information.  Expected launch date is July 25th!

The Vandal Crest Wines mean a lot to us here at Camas Prairie Winery.  As a Vandal Alumni and former student-athlete, I bleed silver and gold!  After all, I wouldn’t be here in Moscow if it weren’t for the University of Idaho.  We are very excited to deliver our same great wines with iconic images of the state’s land grant institution. – Wine Bar Manager, Charlotte Otero

The following Saturday, April 7th join us as we have Amy Bleu from Portland, Oregon gracing us with her quirky Cabaret Folk style!

“There’s something about Amy Bleu that’s just a bit disquieting even as it is wholly inviting and entertaining. A coquettish singer with a flair for the theatrical, Bleu radiates some kind of underlying mischief or darkness. So, while she’s up there doing a nice quirky little number on the ukulele, you know there’s more to her than rainbows and butterflies. It’s a compelling sensation for a listener.”
On Magazine in the Yakima Herald Republic, by Pat Muir, 2011
